Sweetie, I could have written this. Exactly this. Every compensatory strategy I ever used successfully for my entire adult life has come crashing down.
I didn't even know I was using strategies. I just...did things. Now doing things has become a struggle between forgetting the things I am meant to be doing, and being either 'scared' of or unwilling to do them. My boss says I speak about my brain like it's in charge and I have no choice in these things that are happening which, in a way, is true, but I need to find other ways of not getting in my own way.
Happy to help with the unwanted cooked things ... ;-)
More seriously, I know quite a few people who are starting to discover that they've been masking for over forty years. Although I know that messy cooks have made you twitch for quite a while ... may be a reason why you like Ben from Sorted?

It's escalated from messy being simply annoying to a full on "I need to look away right now or the discomfort is overwhelming."
Ah ...
