“ Given the roles he’d played I could almost believe he had transcended mere humanity and evolved into something else.”
A little while ago, I did some reading into the occult symbolism behind Bowie’s work, more of a point of interest, rather than anything I personally believe in. It’s well known how Bowie referenced Aleister Crowley in his work, but when you see just how intricately worn the strands are, it is somewhat breathtaking. He left little references in music videos that transcended decades, and if you know what to look for, there are some rather considerable clues (let’s just say the album name Station To Station doesn’t primarily reference trains). Whether he believed these things or not, I don’t know, but at the very least, it leaves this air of mysticism that makes it very easy to believe that he was aiming to become more than a human frame can hold.
I think I'd like to go and dig deeper into the occult symbolism he used, as it's an area that intrigues me. For some time I was reading a lot about magic, and I remember reading a book by Patricia Crowther which just made an awful lot of sense. I can't remember which one it was now, annoyingly but I liked it so much I called her to tell her. You can tell how long ago this was as I could easily find her number!
That was a warm and interesting conversation. I recall she talked about needing someone to hand things over to as she was going to take a step back from her coven so was looking for an apprentice. There was just something in her tone...and my hind brain quite irrationally panicked and I said I had to go as I was at work and said goodbye.
No problem! I found this a little while ago, which is a rather good summary that sent me down all kinds of rabbit holes: https://www.newsfromtheperimeter.com/home/2018/1/21/david-bowie-occult-hero - I’m a skeptic myself, but I find all of the approaches interesting from a philosophical and anthropological perspective. I also love all of the folderol around it, especially in films lie A Dark Song, which I would certainly recommend if you haven’t seen it (it’s a horror film, but it’s more atmosphere and psychology than blood and guts, and has some very well researched stuff around Enochian magic). And gosh, just giving Patricia Crowther a ring to tell her you liked her book was rather adventurous! I wonder if she was trying to recruit you?
Thank you! I'm open to many ideas, whilst not having a particularly strong belief in any one thing. I've also had experiences that I simply can't explain, or haven't managed to explain yet!
I did get that feeling from Patricia, but I was very young so, er, no.
Probably something to talk about over a nice cup of tea at some point. We're down in Bexhill over Christmas so happy to meet up and greet the wee bairn.

I do apologise, I thought I had replied!
